As an accomplished estate planning attorney, Mike focuses his practice on all aspect of estate planning from basic estate plans (Trust, Wills, Durable Powers of Attorney and Advance Health Care Directives) to advanced estate planning and business transactions, income tax planning, probate, trust administration, charitable trusts and charitable planning. Mike is well versed in the more sophisticated techniques such as Dynasty Trusts and Asset Protection vehicles. Mike is also an in-demand lecturer for CPAs, attorneys and financial advisors.
Mike started his law career as a litigator, handling complex, multi-party cases from complaint through trial in areas such as wrongful death, personal injury, premises liability, products liability, and construction, as well as business and breach-of-contract matters. Mike has represented companies such as Walmart, Target, and Costco, and performed work for insurance companies such as State Farm, Mercury, and Federated Mutual. This background and unique perspective enables him to effectively analyze and prepare potential Asset Protection strategies for his clients.
Mike earned his undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of California, Davis. He attended law school while under scholarship at the University of San Diego School of Law, where he was active in the Sports and Entertainment Law Society and La Raza Law Students Association. During law school, he attended the Tulane Law School’s study abroad program in Rhodes, Greece, where he studied under their maritime law program. Mike is from Southern California and is admitted to practice law in all courts in the State of California, as well as the Southern and Central Federal District courts.
Mike enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, and coaches several sports, including baseball, football and soccer. Mike is also currently the president of Del Mar Little League and an avid supporter of the San Diego Gulls Hockey Club.
